I am purchasing a secure certificate and need a CSR. Can you generate a CSR for me?

Sure! All you need to do is send us the answers to the following questions:

Country Name (two letter code – example: US)
State or Province Name (full name)
Locality Name (eg – city)
Organization Name (eg – company name)
Organizational Unit Name (eg – section or department – this is optional)
Secure URL (eg – secure.yourdomain.com, www.yourdomain.com, etc.)
Email Address
An optional company name (this is optional)

Note: The secure URL is the ONLY URL that will not generate a warning error when referenced with your certificate. For example, if you enter www.yourdomain.com then only URL’s referenced as www.yourdomain.com will work without displaying a warning message. Other URL’s will still be secure, but will generate a warning that the name on the certificate does not exactly match the URL

Once you have completed and returned the answers to us, we will generate the CSR and put it in your base FTP folder for you to forward to your certificate issuer.

Please put “CSR request” in the subject line of your help desk request.

Can I have an additional ftp login that is restricted to a specific directory?

Sure! We can set this up for you. Just send us the username/password you would like and the path to the directory that you would like the additional login to have access to.

Please put “additional ftp request” in the subject line of your help desk request and format the body this way:

account username:
new ftp username:
new ftp password:
path to directory: /home/YOUR_USERNAME/www/NAME_OF_DIRECTORY/

We currently create these new logins by hand so please limit your request. New logins are generally created within 48 hours.

Blog comment spam

Question:

My blog has been constantly comment-spammed, causing the database to overload.
Could these spammers be blocked out to remedy the problem?

Answer:

I advise you check your blog software. Most have add-in modules to better block spam and moderate comments.

If you have the IP address where the comments are coming from we can firewall out that IP. However this is rarely a good long term solution. Most comment spammers change IP’s frequently.

The best solution is to go to the homepage of your blog software and look for a comment spam blocker. You might also want to check the user support forums for you blog software to see what solutions others are using. Usually there is a quick add-on you can make that will block most automated comment spammers.

I am receiving mail from my domain that I did not send

These messages are most likely coming from an infected computer/server that you have had contact with. These messages are not coming from your server and your domain name is only being forged in the ‘from’ field of these messages. Unfortunately, there is not alot that can be done to stop this. About the only thing you can do is change your mail catch-all to ‘bounce’ which will stop the mail being addressed to bogus (undefined) addresses at your domain.

How do I transfer my domain’s DNS to phpwebhosting.com?

The transfer process should be very easy.

First, make sure you have assigned the domain to your phpwebhosting.com account. Your primary domain name should appear at the top of your control panel and parked domains can be viewed under the “domain” section of your control panel.

If the domain has not already been added to your account, you can add it via the “domain” section of your control panel. You can either make the domain your primary domain by clicking on the link that says “Click here to change your Primary Domain” or park the domain by clicking on the link that says “Add a parked domain”

Once the domain has been added to your account, all you need to do is go to your domain registrar’s website and find the option to change the name servers associated with your domain. You must remove all existing name servers and replace them with the following –

ns1.phpwebhosting.com
ns2.phpwebhosting.com

It generally takes about 24 hours for name server changes to take effect, but some registrars take longer. Some registrar’s send a confirmation email so be sure to check the email address that your registrar has on file and reply to the email if necessary.

If your domain does not start resolving to your phpwebhosting.com account within 48 hours, please contact us via the help desk section of your control panel and we will do a ‘whois’ lookup on your domain to determine the problem. Please do not contact our help desk until a full 48 business hours have passed since you made the name server change request at your registrar.

I get an time out error when trying to send mail

Question:

I can suddenly no longer send mail – my website works and I can receive mail but I cannot send any mail. What is wrong?

Answer:

What is most likely happening is that your local ISP is no longer allowing you to send email out using any mail server except their own. This is a common practice that many ISP’s do now in order to attempt to better control their networks.

What you will need to do to get around this is either:

1.) set your outgoing / SMTP mail server to your ISP’s mail server. You may need to call your ISP to find out exactly what they use. Usually it is something like :

mail.your_isp.com

or

smtp.your_isp.com

If these do not work, you’ll need to contact them to find out what they use.

Make sure you DO NOT change your incoming / pop3 mail server name. It must stay the same so that you can still get mail from us.

2.) The other option is to keep you mail settings the same but change the SMTP port from 25 (the default) to 2525 . We run mail on ports 25 and 2525 so that clients whose ISP’s no longer allow outgoing mail can still send mail. In most cases, the ISP is only blocking mail the port 25 so if you set your mail program to use port 2525 you will be able to send again.

Random spam + viruses to undefined addresses on my domain

Question :

For some reason today I’m getting a lot of spam generated to random email addresses to and from my domain. I assume this is a virus scam or other net trick.
My catch-all is directing all these random address to my main account.

How do you elimate the catch all address or is there another solution?

Thanks

Answer:

Hi,

Unfortunatly this is becoming more and more common. I would recommend you delete the catch-all address. Catch-all’s used to be a very useful type of email address but now that spammers and virus writers are starting to bombard lots of random addresses at domains we are recommending people stop using catch-alls.

You can delete your catch-all by doing the following :

1. Go into your email control panel

2. Click on “Edit existing POP3 accounts”

3. Click on “Set catchall email deleted” near the bottom of that page.

How do I add an additional domain to my account?

You can add an additional domain to your account via the domain section of your control panel. Just click on the link that says “Add a parked domain” and enter your new domain name.

Don’t forget: You must also go to your domain registrar’s website and change the name server’s associated with your new domain to ns1.phpwebhosting.com / ns2.phpwebhosting.com.

How Do I create new POP3 mail accounts?

You can create new email accounts via the email configuration area of your control panel.

Just go to the email tab of your control panel and click on the link that says “Click here to manage your email accounts”. Sign in as postmaster (username: postmaster), enter your postmaster password (usually the same as your control panel password), then enter your domain name (no http:// or www before domain name). Once logged-in to the email control panel, select the option to “add new POP3”.

If you need to modify this account later, just click on the “POP3” link then click on the “modify user” button next to the account name.
